MARINA
On July 17, 2007 we found a beautiful and sweet dog and we named her Marina, we loved having her a part of the family and she fit in so well. She was a great playmate for Bianca and even the boys. She would ride in the jeep with them, chase them in the trampoline and would just love on everyone.
Well, sad to say, she got out of the yard on Tuesday morning and I just got a call this afternoon letting me know that there was a dog that looked like her on the side of the road in front of my neighborhood.
A friend of mine went to confirm that it was our Marina and it was.
I have been crying all afternoon, Elkin and Esai do not know yet, Erico seems to be okay with it. He asked if they could see her, but I told him no, it is better to remember her playing around and happy instead of how she is now.
Here is a poem that I wrote to try to relieve the sadness:
On April 17 2007 was a very special day
we found you running around
like a little stray
We brought you home, you saw the boys
and all you did was play!
You would ride in the Jeep
with your favorite driver
and would run around, make us play
until we were all tired.
We had you in our lives
for a little over a year
You were such an awesome pet
now I can't believe that you are not here.
You will always be remembered
and always in our hearts
Even with the boys
they loved you from the very start.
Goodbye Marina...........

Quotes:
As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery.
We have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace.
The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as
anger and attachment, fear and suspicion,
while love and compassion, a sense of universal responsibility
are the sources of peace and happiness.
Dalai Lama

Live in Joy, In love,
Even among those who hate.
Live in joy, In health,
Even among the afflicted.
Live in joy, In peace,
Even among the troubled.
Look within. Be still.
Free from fear and attachment,
Know the sweet joy of living in the way.
There is no fire like greed,
No crime like hatred,
No sorrow like separation,
No sickness like hunger of heart,
And no joy like the joy of freedom.
Health, contentment and trust
Are your greatest possessions,
And freedom your greatest joy.
Look within. Be still.
Free from fear and attachment,
Know the sweet joy of living in the way.

A Simple Request
I have a simple request to ask of those that read my blog.
I have a friend that has three children the same ages as Erico and Elkin, a son that is 7 and a set of twins that are 5. The dad went in the hospital for a foot surgery a little before the holidays and a few days after, his wife noticed his foot looking little blue, so she scheduled him to see his Dr. immediately and his foot was in the beginning stages of gangrene. He has been in and out of the hospital for treatments and hopefully will not lose part of a toe. And to top it off, he contracted a staph infection from the hospital that he has to take additional medicines for!
And if this wasn't enough for the family, the mom found out three days before Christmas that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer! She had to wait until the beginning of this week to found out the results and has found that she will have to have the majority of one of her breast removed.
The most amazing part about this family is that through all of this and very harsh financial problems, their spirits have not been crushed. If a regular person spoke to them without having the knowledge of their situation, you would not even begin to imagine what they are facing. They are ALWAYS happy, they put their children's needs and happiness before their own. They are just a VERY remarkable family!
I ask this to those that are reading this blog post......... whether you pray or not, whether you believe in God or not, please say a prayer for this family or if you don't pray, please just send good Karma and positive thoughts their way so that they can continue to face these hard times with a positive outlook and that they have the strength to keep on fighting their fights with a positive outlook.
I know that this family will end these battles in victory, I just want to send positive vibes their way.
Thank you for taking a moment to read this post, I know that I have not posted in a while, I just felt this was Very Worth me taking a few minutes to ask this favor from you all!
Love,
Jodie

UPDATE
Well, it has been a while since I posted actual writing since my last post, but we have been very busy for the past few months and have had a lot of things going on in the Barbosa lives!
Gil and I ended our co-ed soccer season in October, we did not win the season like we would have hoped to and we had a lot of players leave the team for various reasons, but we had fun. We are going to take the next season off and try to get more organized with our new activities.
Erico and Elkin both had a great season in soccer and now they have started to play in some 3v3 tournaments, which is good to develop them in quick touches and to think fast on the field. We have been blessed to have a great group of kids and parents involved on both teams. We will losing our assistant coach for the Spring season, but we will try to handle it as the games approach.
Gil and I went to see Joel Osteen with Mariela, Todd and Claudia. Joel Osteen is a Christian preacher. Even though I do not consider myself to be religious, he is a very positive speaker and what he says makes you want to change the bad habits you're used to and focus on the positive in yourself and the people around you. It was very uplifting and hopefully I will keep moving forward in a positive manner in my life.
I am officially a student with Valencia Community College! I enrolled in their Culinary Arts program. I am very excited about this. I have always loved to cook and bake since I was a little girl and I still enjoy it, so what else beater to go back to school for, RIGHT?!?!
Also, at night I am working for a company called "WEST AT HOME" and it is a way to make a little extra income. All I do is log into the company's program and answer calls from my house! It is not a lot of money because I only work about 5-7 hours a week, but any extra money helps and especially from the comfort of my home!
Well, I hope that everyone had a MERRY CHRISTMAS and will have a HAPPY NEW YEAR. I hope that the new year will bring happiness, love, peace and most of all love to everyone! This year seems to have been hard on a quite a few people I know and hopefully the new year will bring new beginnings!
With much love and respect to all of my family and friends, Happy New Year!
